Ah, you are correct there, but our "Baby brother" relation with Israel just ticks off the other Middle Eastern countries.
For years, Israel has been the bully in the middle east, and we've stood by and done nothing because they're our friends and they can do no wrong.
You are also correct on the middle east and oil.
The reason when they try to wheen themselves off oil and it fails (Note the 2008 Iranian Elections), is because the government wants to keep their money juggernaut at the expense of the people.

I get your point on slowly, but we both agree, it needs to happen, and for it to happen, America has to cut it's oil dependency first.
You are also correct (Sadly) that most American's just don't care. Really shows the ignorance and arrogance of America (Don't get me wrong, I love my home country but am not above criticizing it).
A lot of things would have gotten done without party opposition, unfortunately we ignored George Washington's warning in his own Farewell Address about multiple political parties.

In fact, when I said friendly and relative, I was trying to say we should stop policing the world and worry about mainly ourselves.

I'll try to explain what I mean by my statement of returning Proper powers to the states as best I can.
The states should have the right to run themselves with limited government interference, however, they have to abide by the constitution and adhere to any federal order given to them. The federal government still has control over the states, and can interfere when the states run into a problem they just can't handle, but other than that, they can not interfere with state issues, which they have been since the end of the American Civil War (Which was understandable back then). I hope I explained that clearly enough.
America was founded on limited government and power to the people and states, we've gone so far away from that America is now broke in a sense.
We seem to agree for the most part on most issues but are split on other issues.
